Daniel C. West MD
Dr. West is a Founder of the I-PASS Institute and a member of the Executive Council of the I-PASS Study Group. He is a Professor of Pediatrics, Director of the Residency Program and Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. In nearly two decades as a residency program director, Dr. West has developed a number of educational innovations that span the continuum of medical education, served in several leadership positions in accrediting and certificating organizations, and won several awards in graduate medical education. With expertise in assessment and measurement, Dr. West’s research interests focus on understanding the relationship between measures of physician skills and patient care outcomes. In both the I-PASS Handoff Study and the current study, Patient and Family Centered I-PASS: Bringing I-PASS to the Bedside , he has led the work to measure handoff skills and other important study outcomes. For the I-PASS Institute, he helped develop virtual on-line learning modules and observational/process improvement measurements. He also serves as a senior mentor to support site implementation.
